A professional woman with shoulder-length dark hair, glasses, and a dark blazer standing against a brick wall.

I am an experienced attorney with a strong background in public service and civil law. My current practice encompasses all aspects of Family Law, Dependency Law, Orders of Protection, and Guardianships. I spent seven years as an Arizona Assistant Attorney General, representing the Department of Child Safety.

I also served as a Deputy County Attorney for both Maricopa County and Pima County where I represented government entities handling complex civil matters requiring careful analysis, sound judgment, and effective advocacy. I have extensive courtroom trial experience as well as mediation and settlement experience. Solving legal issues efficiently and effectively is my goal. My practice is built on hard work, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to serving the people and communities I represent. Originally from Bridgeport, CT, I have been an Arizona resident for over 30 years, calling Tucson my home for 22 of those years.

I received my juris doctorate from Indiana University, McKinney School of Law. While there, I received a 40-hour certificate in Mediation Resolution and a graduate certificate in Environmental Resources Law. I received a Master of Education degree from the University of Arizona, and taught middle school science prior to becoming a lawyer. I also have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Arizona State University.

Hi, I’m Darlene Cortina, Esq.

My Approach

Many family law attorneys focus primarily on settling cases and, while I always explore reasonable settlements, I know that's not always possible or in your best interest. With seven years as an Assistant Attorney General and extensive trial experience as a Deputy County Attorney, I've spent countless hours in the courtroom advocating for complex cases. That experience means I'm fully prepared to fight for you at trial if that's what it takes.

When the other side knows your attorney is ready and able to go to court, it changes the dynamic. You're negotiating from a position of strength. And if we do end up before a judge, you can trust that I know how to present your case effectively and persuasively. I don't shy away from difficult battles, I embrace them when they're necessary to protect your rights and your family.
